I purchased 700ft of 135lb braided from PNT for about $70 and put 350ft on each. Probably a bit too much but has been on for two seasons now and still working as it should. By the way, I had hoped to use the braid instead of the $$ PowerPro but I ended up with the PPro as it was just better. |

I've just switched one of my riggers over to the 200lb power pro. Got it at the chandler, 300ft for $39. Have read lots of posts about needing backing to bring the spool size out and was in a bit of a quandary when I loaded it on as I didn't have anything resembling what others had used. In the end, I just left the SS line on the spool, tying the outer end back through the same holes the start uses. I made sure it was level and even with the bottom of the spool and then wrapped 3-4 layers of duct tape over it, then attached my power pro. So far it seems to be handling it well and it is surprisingly accurate regarding depth. I can see my cannon balls on my sounder and the depth generally matches the counter on the d/r. So far am liking the power pro a lot. Still get a quite a bit of blow-back, but no worse than the SS. I tried the little rubber tubes on the release clips, but have opted for the scotty indicator tabs (blaze orange) to use as upper stoppers for the clips. Seem to work good and when I forget and bring it up too far, the clip slides harmlessly down the line. |
