So I bought a boat without knowing much and now that I have the boat, I have no idea what it is or where to find the little plate that tells me what the boat is.

Can someone give me a hint as to where the plate may have been placed and maybe tell me what my boat is?

 Yeah I know.... WTF right? It was a price I was willing to pay and I was thinking about fishing more than what I was doing haha.

I think it's a glascraft or something. But when I searched for glascraft the boats that come up look different.

Could be a hourston ? but it appears the bow is too short
(maybe an older model)
looks like the vintage would be late 1970's early 1980's perhaps ? :?:

there should be a stamped alum. plate with details
& hp ratings riveted to the transom either on the back
or inside the motorwell.

Check your serial number on the hull or bill of sale.
the first 2 or 3 letters may give you the manufacturer name
There is a look up on the web.
Post it here and I will look for the link

When you take your paper work in to license your" new to you boat", and get it put in your name, the powers to be should be able to tell you the make and year? It is very common for the serial number be to covered up or lost on older boats, along with the make. Good luck paying the taxes. ;) .....BB

Hello PurrNaK
Being as I worked in the boat building industry in the 70s I am somewhat familiar with both the Hourston and K&C designs of that era. Although it may be the camera angle the bow looks too short and the hull design just doesn't look quite right to be either a Hourston or a K&C. I don't want to disagree with albernifisher as the 70s seem like a long time ago and I could be wrong.

With the Hourstons, DE's and K&C's, from even the earlier styles, had chines.... pretty sure it isnt one of them as they came from the same mold. Although very similar. Sangster....glasspar?

The hull # might be visible on the stern but I would bet that the plate is long gone

I've searched the trans and the rest of the boat and no plate. It had numbers on the bow at one point, but they have been sanded / painted over. From what I've read so far, the numbers were the old style anyway.

What do you mean taxes? When I was at the insurrance place they didn't care about the boat itself, they only dealt with the trailer it was on. The licensing site for the boat itself said it was free to register and get numbers for the boat.

When you get your new numbers from service canada you will be required
to provide an invoice as proof of ownership.
they in turn forward to the tax dept. and just like magic, you get a bill
for the tax.
