Anyone have a favorite fishing store online? Some of mine are cabelas.com (the american one is better unfortunately and with the dollar par...) and bassproshops.com and reelflies.ca is a good one for flies

luremaking.com

I just placed on order last week and to my surprise I was told the prices on all metal blades and spoons had been revised. The prices had been LOWERED. Yup a stronger buck actually was translated to the customer and not absorbed as profit.

I love this company. It is Canadian, has awesome customer service, when I place an order on Monday it is at my door by Friday and to top it off they will do custom orders as well. On products they do not normally handle you may have to wait awhile for them to get product but if they can they will bring the stuff in for you.
Example 1000 3/0 octopus style eagle claw lazer sharp stealth black hooks for $94. Thats right 1000 3/0 hooks for $94!! Berrys Bait and tackle is selling the same hook online and a pack of 8 hooks is $3.99. The per hook cost is 9.4 cents vs 50 cents. If you know what you like to use, buy in bulk.

The shipping costs are reasonable and if you can put together an order with a couple of fishing partners then the shipping costs become downright negligible.

For people tying their own flies what site would you guys suggest??
There has to be someone that can do better than the local stores, I can rack up a 50 dollar bill in no time.

For all you fly guys....there is a shop in Port Angeles called Waters West. It is a COMPLETE fly fishing shop....We were in there last week when we were on our way to Forks to fish the Olympic Peninsula. This place was a fly tiers dream....they had TONS of stuff for tying & they said they could order just about anything you want. They are also happy to ship to Canada & very knowledgeable guys. There were more than a couple of pics on the wall of these guys from the store with 20lb+ steelhead from the various rivers on the OP. They are very accomplished fishermen who definitely know their stuff. They told us, their website is just getting up & running, but you could always phone in an order & they'll send it out to you. Here is their contact info....

Waters West Fly Fishing Outfitters
140 W.Front Street
Port Angeles, WA
98362

Phone: 360-417-0937

http://www.waterswest.com

Hope this helps....

Fishing was OK...we drifted 16 miles on the Bogachiel the first day & shore fished the Sol Duc & Quillayute the second day. Hooked most of our fish on the Bogie during the drift, but the damn battery in the new camera crapped out after only a few hours, so I've only got a couple of pics.....NOT IMPRESSED AT ALL!!! Looking for a second battery on E-Bay now. In total, we managed to hook 14 fish and land 4. The rivers are amazing....LOTS of very fishy waters & beautiful scenery. Wish we had more time to explore & do some serious hiking....two days just isn't enough time to cover all of the available water. Biggest fish was between 16-18lbs.....talked to a few of the guides & they said fishing was a bit slow right now, but they have been getting quite a few fish over 20lbs. One guy hooked a 24-25lber on the upper Calawah that morning...managed to snap a couple of quick pics of it right at shore before the line broke & he said they killed a 21lber the day before. He was telling his other buddy that was his 14th fish over 20lbs so far this year.....he felt fishing was a little SLOW!!! I could only imagine how good it would be down there if the natives weren't netting at least two days a week. Every year they get one or two fish in the gill nets that are over 30lbs & LOTS that are 20+. The whole place reminds me of how things were here 25 years ago....You can fish bait, TANDEM BARBED hooks if you want & believe it or not, KILL one WILD steelhead a year. I can't believe they still have such good numbers of big wild fish left with those kind of rules. Another strange thing we noticed is that almost nobody fishes from shore....it seems like everyone has a drift boat or rubber raft & that is the way they fish. There is fairly good shore access, but it seems like everybody wants to line up the drift boats and head out. Didn't seem to really affect the fishing all that much, all of the boats we talked to were into between 4-8 fish that morning, so everyone seemed happy. It ( The OP ) is probably the best shot at getting a 20lb steelhead that is fairly close to home.....it is an hour & a half to Victoria, about an hour ferry ride on the Coho & then about another hour drive out to Forks. There are four main rivers to fish ( Five if you count bar fishing or plunking on the Quillayute ) The Bogachiel, Sol Duc, Calawah & Hoh. All have BIG fish in them, you just need to spend some time chasing them. Here are a couple of pics I did manage to get.......

That first fish was one of the toughest fish I've ever seen.....He had a seal bite by his tail, net marks all over his body & claw marks from an eagle on both sides of his back.Seemed like everything was trying to kill this poor bugger.....I was happy to see him swim away.. :D

thanks for the info SS - I've been dreaming of heading over and fishing those rivers for a while now. It just goes to show that if you have good habitat you have a good chance of healthy fish populations.

No worries MM.....definitely worth the trip over just for the scenery....that elusive 20lber also lives in all of those rivers, so there is a better than average chance of finding one of them as well. If you need any info......guide, places to stay, tackle shop...etc.....Feel free to PM me & I'll do what I can for ya....

My favorite online fishing store is Sportco.com but since Dane at the Harbour Chandler has taken over the fishing department I dont find it worth shopping elsewhere. Pretty much anything you want he can get (if its not already in the store)and at really good prices .

SS, whos the guy with really good taste when it comes to hockey teams releasing that chromer? ;)
