No official date has been set yet. May 1st. will probably be the earliest we can expect ling to open. Will post as soon as date is set.

Are you talking about Kelp Greenlings or about green fleshed Lingcod?

Hi NigelD,
You can keep the the kelp greenling but, you might be better off trying for those pacific cod or sole and flounders. All of which are pretty easy to catch and you don't tend to catch rockfish by accident when going for them.

Thanks guys for your info - but what exactly is a kelp greenling? What's the difference between one of those, and a green flesh ling?

Cheers,

How do you catch pacific cod or sole and flounders without catching rockfish and Lingcod?

Can you catch these from shore and where? Anywhere south of millbay? (I still be working on getting a boat and a vehicle to tow it :)

Summer on the lakes = slow. Winter on the lakes = Slow and cold. And after sept I hear I can't fish from the breakwater... So far I've found 3 weeks in spring and 3 weeks in fall where I can actually catch anything from shore.

I don't get many rockfish when going for sole and flounders because I find them on flat muddy bottoms, 75-200'. I have good luck with bait on a small homemade spreader bar. I've never caught any from shore but, near shore for sure. The p-cod seem to be fairly deep [200'+]in my experience and near bottom. I don't have any suggestions for south of Mill Bay, it's out of my area.
