My wife and I are planning 3 week long trips to Vancouver Island. We have an 18' boat, a Klamath with a 50 hp motor and a full canvas cabin on the front of it. We are wondering if that would be adaquate for Ucluelet, if we pick our days. We are also wondering if there are some areas that are protected from open water on days when there is a wind?

Thanks in advance for any help.

you bet, you might not get offshore but there's almost always somewhere to hide in barkley sound.

I fish regularly on the banks,ie South Bank, The Wreck, Starfish, etc in my 17 1/2' Hourston. I've got a bit more horsepower but if you pick your day you should be fine. As MM said you can always fish inside waters. Barkley Sound produced well for me last summer.

"If we pick our days"
Yes I fish with a 18.5 foot Double Eagle 150 yamaha and we do the offshore on "Good" days.
Watch the weather and fog it can change in a hurry.
You can always fish in Baclay Sound and do well.
Good Luck
Dan
