Don't want to stray too far off topic, but count me in. Pretty GDB when a body has to go out there and steal a trap when you can pick up a used on for $10, drop it off the crab dock and go home with dinner.

Thanks for the info FG and next time I see you going out, you will have a blue & white shadow.

Not sure where FG is crabbing, but I frequent 2 spots, inside Departure Bay at the Beach End, 80ft or outside the bay in front of the gazebo on the cliff of Newcastle in about 50ft.

I have heard of people doing well in the estuary, but it is a bit out of my normal travel and in the past I haven't done that well there.

Or you can go down and toss it off the crab dock. Usually come away with a few keepers after a couple hours work.

Thanks Stress medicine. I have tried departure bay a few times, and have got a few. I'll look for those other spots, I have done really really well just south of ladysmith in front of rocky beach rd when Im over there. I had 4 prawn traps stolen in that area last year, and over the years I had 5 crab traps go missing. So I came up with an idea to make it painful for the people that lift my traps... seems to be working.

The joys of crabbing is exploring in my opinion. There are lots of spots around Nanaimo and Ladysmith that produce decent numbers of keepers. Look at the charters and drop traps in places that look good and give it a try...you will know in a couple of hours!

Cheers All,

Had a charter on Thursday and what a great day on the water! Several reasons for the thought that spring is not that far away...including fish! Full limits of salmon although the biggest was lost 'long distance' after quite a battle. Consolation prize included full limits of prawns, crabs and more than a legal amount of fun. We took the Gold Medal for a great day.

Back on the water on Sunday.

Great job, your the man! Any Tyees yet?
