Made it out a few days back, hit lock bay on gabriola, rods were busy with 2-3 lb ers. Nothing worth keeping for the smoker I just got. Looks like sooke is on fire for winter springs, but too lazy to trailer down for 5-7 lb ers.

130ft to 200ft of water on bottum make sure you pound bottum then bring it up 10ft or so I used anchovey and a green flasher that was hot and spoons #5 for me behind a red or green glow hot spot flasher and I troll between 1.8 and 2.5mph I lean towards 2.2 to 2.8mph if I'm trolling bait Good luck and let us know how you make out

Clarke Rock to humps to Neck Point yesterday. Lost one to broken line when it hit. One just undersize, and a couple of shakers. Fished 10.30 to 4.00, wind not nearly as bad as forecast. Water was a bit lumpy but very fishable.

Fished the waterfall and Silva Bay area saturday with no bites but got a good feed of crab and prawns on the way back so all in all a great day on the water.

Cheers All,

Charter decided he wanted to fish despite the Gale winds so we found a spot off Gabriola and hid out from the waves. Oh...and we picked up two legal springs - biggest was 8 lbs - down 120'. Guest didn't wish to keep any as only in town for one day so we released both. Kinda nice to see.

Amazing to watch 2 seals follow us for almost 2 hours in that type of water. Usually they don't chase that much during storms so I was very surprised.

Back out later this week.

Cheers All,

Not sure if the impending storm had chased the bait all over the place but we saw balls of bait on the bottom, in the middle and right on top of the water. Usually they stay closer to the bottom. Largest concentration of bait was right tight in to SB and The Grandby - dozen large concentrations.

The prawning and crabbing certainly has picked up too! :)

As for the 'nice weather on Saturday...that thought went through my mind all day! "Why couldn't the charter have been Saturday?" LOL Coming through the gap at dusk was not a picnic...tide and wind provided some impressive waves! Reminds me I should send an email to the boat manufacturer thanking him for such impressive hand holds. They were used!
